Cyber risk management solutions provider Inversion6 has appointed Tom Siu as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Siu joins Inversion6’s CISO practice and he will work directly with clients to develop and manage their cybersecurity programs. Siu previously served as CISO at the Michigan State and Case Western Reserve universities, and was a virtual CISO at a managed security services provider.

Week of March 18, 2024

Email security company Abnormal Security has appointed Smita Sanadhya as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Jeff True as Chief Legal Officer (CLO). Sanadhya previously led worldwide finance planning and analysis at Okta. She also held leadership roles at Microsoft and HP. True comes to Abnormal from Zoom Video Communications. He also spent nine years at Palo Alto Networks as General Counsel and was the firm’s first in-house attorney.

Bot management firm Arkose Labs has named Patrick Kehoe as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Prior to joining Arkose Labs, Kehoe was CMO at Coalfire, a global risk management and compliance firm, and Axan, now Digital.AI.

Security data movement startup Tarsal has appointed Barrett Lyon as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Lyon, who will oversee the development and expansion of Tarsal’s extract, transform and load (ETL) platform, is the founder of several security and technology companies, including Netography, BitGravity, Defense.Net, the Opte Project, and Prolexic Technologies, where he served as CEO and in other executive roles. Tarsal announced Lyon’s addition to its leadership as part of its $6 million seed funding announcement.

Industrial cybersecurity firm Nozomi Networks announced that Kevin Isaac has been appointed Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) for the company. Isaac previously held roles including Chief Revenue Officer of Forcepoint, Senior Vice President at Symantec and Senior Vice President at Sophos. He joins the firm following last weeks’ $100 million Series E funding announcement.

KYC company Encompass Corporation has appointed Neil Acworth as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) as part of its focus on delivering gold-standard information security processes to global banks. Acworth previously held CTO and CIO roles at several companies in the tech industry.

Industrial cybersecurity professional services provider Armexa has appointed Van Wilson as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Wilson brings more than 30 years of experience in business operations and leadership, particularly in the professional services sector. He previously held leadership roles at Audubon Companies, Accenture, and Cimation.

Microsoft announced that Karén Simonyan has joined newly announced Microsoft AI as Chief Scientist, focused on advancing Copilot and Microsoft’s other consumer AI products and research. Simonyan reports to Mustafa Suleyman, EVP and CEO of Microsoft AI.

Mustafa Suleyman has joined Microsoft as EVP and CEO of a new organization called Microsoft AI. He will be focused on leading the company’s consumer AI products and research, including its generative AI service Copilot as well as its Bing search engine and Edge browser. Founder of both DeepMind and Inflection, Suleyman will report to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Cybersecurity services firm Coalfire announced that Charles Henderson has been hired as EVP of Cybersecurity services. His previous roles include Global Managing Partner and Head of IBM X-Force and VP, Managed Security Testing at Trustwave SpiderLabs.

Week of March 11, 2024

Southwest Airlines announced that Carrie Mills has been promoted from VP Technology, Cybersecurity to VP & Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) effective March 16. In her new role, Mills will be responsible for all aspects of cybersecurity across Southwest’s facilities, airports, and aircraft, comprising security engineering, security operations, incident response, threat intelligence, risk and compliance, and vulnerability management. Mills joined Southwest in 2027 as the Senior Manager Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence and Response.

Australian airline Qantas has appointed Matt Biber as its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Andre Walduck as Chief Information Officer (CIO). Walduck was previously CIO and chief digital officer of Australia Post. Biber and Walduck were named after the previous CISO and CIO left the airline in recent months.

Risk and financial advisory solutions firm Kroll announced the appointment of Dave Burg, as Global Head of Cyber Risk. Burg joins the company from EY, where he most recently lead cybersecurity for EY Americas. Prior to joining EY, Burg served as Global Cybersecurity Leader for PwC.

Home security systems company ADT has appointed Tim Rains as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). He previously held cybersecurity leadership roles at T-Mobile, AWS, Las Vegas Sands, and Microsoft. He also served on a subcommittee of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).

Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK) announced that Stephen Ford has joined the company as vice president and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). He will report to Chris Nardecchia, senior vice president and Chief Information Officer at Rockwell. Ford joins Rockwell from pharmaceutical giant McKesson Corporation, where he was Vice President, Global Security. 

Week of March 4, 2024

Palo Alto, California-based Identity security company Veza announced the appointment of Mike Towers as Chief Security & Trust Officer. In this role, Towers will spearhead Veza’s cybersecurity and data protection strategy and lead the company’s Advisory Board. Towers previously held roles as Chief Digital Trust Officer at Takeda and CISO at Allergan plc and GlaxoSmithKline.
