CA Technologies (NASDAQ:CA) today announced that its identity and access management (IAM) technology now supports the Google Apps™ suite, which includes the familiar and widely-used Gmail and Google Docs applications. This means that companies can now use the same identity/access management system for both internal and external (Google) applications.
This support for Google Apps follows the release in March of a similar capability for salesforce.com’s enterprise cloud computing platform, Force.com, and applications including Sales Cloud 2, Service Cloud 2 and Salesforce Chatter.
The company cited the new capabilities as proof points related to its declared strategy of providing security “to, for and from” the cloud.
Bill Mann, senior vice president of strategy for CA Technologies Security business, stated, “We enable enterprises to extend their existing on-premise IAM systems to encompass cloud applications and services. We provide IAM for cloud providers to secure their services – whether private, public, or hybrid. And we enable IAM services from the cloud.”
In the near future, CA indicates it will be providing its IAM technology as a fully managed service, as part of the “from” component of its security offering.
