Reddit Taps Fredrick ‘Flee’ Lee for CISO Job

Reddit hires a 20-year cybersecurity veteran to manage its privacy and security functions as it prepares for an IPO.

Reddit has upvoted Fredrick Lee into the CISO office.

The San Francisco company on Monday announced the hiring of Lee as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), adding a veteran cybersecurity leader to manage its privacy and security functions.

Reddit said Lee would be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks and challenges around information security, privacy, and compliance.

Lee joins Reddit from payroll processing firm Gusto, where he was most recently CISO and Head of IT. He previously held a stint as Chief Security Officer at Square and has more than 20 years of experience leading global information security and privacy efforts at major financial services companies and technology startups.

Lee joins Reddit as the late-stage startup prepares for an IPO after raising more than $1.3 billion in multiple rounds of funding. He will report to CTO Chris Slowe.

“I believe Reddit uniquely helps its users build meaningful connections and conversations around the areas or interests they are most passionate about,” Lee said. “It is crucial that our security and trust systems remain resilient and agile to adapt to the ever-evolving threat landscape.”

Flee, who hails from Mississippi, holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
