Cybersecurity mergers and acquisitions in April 2021

Several cybersecurity-related acquisitions and mergers were announced in the week of April 19-25, 2021.

Altron acquires Lawtrust

South Africa-based technology solutions provider Altron has acquired Lawtrust, which provides digital trust and cybersecurity solutions, for ZAR 245 million (USD 17 million). Lawtrust, which is also based in South Africa, will help Altron expand its security offerings.

Atos acquires cryptovision

French tech giant Atos announced buying Germany-based cryptovision, a company that specializes in cryptographic products and solutions for securing digital identities. Atos says the deal will help it strengthen its cybersecurity offering.

Boxphish acquires Purplephish

Cyber awareness and training company Boxphish has completed the acquisition of competitor Purplephish. Both companies are based in the United Kingdom. The acquisition is part of Boxphish’s growth strategy.

Coalfire acquires Neuralys Corporation

Cybersecurity firm Coalfire purchased Neuralys Corporation, a company that has developed a cloud-based penetration testing management platform. Neuralys founders and employees will be joining Coalfire’s Adversary Operations practice.

Consilio merges with Xact Data Discovery (XDD)

Consilio, a provider of eDiscovery, document review, risk management, and legal consulting services, is merging with Xact Data Discovery (XDD), which offers eDiscovery, data management, and managed review services to law firms and corporations. The resulting company will operate as Consilio.

Entrust acquires WorldReach

Trusted identity, payments and data protection solutions provider Entrust has acquired Canada-based WorldReach Software, which provides identity and document verification solutions to governments and travel companies. Entrust says the acquisition will extend its ability to serve government and large enterprise customers.

J2 Global splits into J2 Global and Consensus

Internet information and services company J2 Global announced that it will split into two publicly traded companies: J2 Global and Consensus. J2 will continue building an internet platform focused on tech, cybersecurity, health and shopping, while Consensus will provide a secure data exchange and will mainly focus on the healthcare sector.

Mastercard acquires Ekata

Mastercard is acquiring digital identity verification company Ekata for $850 million. Mastercard’s goal is to boost its identity verification capabilities.

Performanta acquires Identity Experts

Managed cybersecurity services firm Performanta has acquired IAM solutions provider Identity Experts to expand its capabilities. Both companies are based in the UK.

Rapid7 acquires Velociraptor

Rapid7 acquired Velociraptor, a company that provides open-source technology for endpoint monitoring, digital forensics and incident response. Rapid7 hopes that Velociraptor assets will help it enhance incident response capabilities, but it has also promised to continue building the Velociraptor community.

WhiteSource acquires Diffend

Open source security and management firm WhiteSource acquired Diffend, a company that provides an open source threat detection solution. Diffend’s commercial offerings will be offered for free as WhiteSource Diffend. The acquisition will also enable WhiteSource to offer a software supply chain risk mitigation platform.
