Trend Micro Launches New Web App Security Offering

Trend Micro has launched a new security as a service solution that uses automated and expert analysis to help protect web applications.

Trend Micro has launched a new security as a service solution that uses automated and expert analysis to help protect web applications.

Generically named “Trend Micro Web App Security”, the new offering is a service that provides enterprise-grade security with vulnerability detection and protection for web applications and the platforms they are deployed on.

Additionally, the cloud-based service includes the ability to issue unlimited SSL certificates and can be calibrated to the specific security needs of each application.

Trend Micro“You can’t get a clear picture of your vulnerabilities without both automated and manual testing, and you need to test the whole stack,” said Wendy Nather, research director of the Enterprise Security Practice at 451 Research. “Integrating all of this testing makes it much easier for the enterprise to be consistent and thorough in its risk assessments.”

A part of the Trend Micro Cloud and Data Center Security Solution , detection extends beyond vulnerabilities alone to include web application malware checking and web reputation management giving organizations a complete picture of their web security posture, the company said.

The solution also provides automatic protection at the platform level and native integration with several web application firewalls to provide a closed loop of protection that is simple to manage and easy to deploy.

With web application scanning that includes both automated and expert analysis, false positives can be avoided and organizations empowered to focus on actual areas of concern, including compliance auditors for regulations like PCI and HIPAA, Trend Micro said.

“For organizations that face rigorous regulations, such as HIPAA in the health care environment, securing data is essential,” said Carl Minear, administrative director of technology infrastructure, Florida Hospital. “Ensuring that our information is safe when made accessible through a Web application can be a security and cost challenge, but Trend Micro provides effective and affordable security for all of our sensitive clinical applications through a single, integrated offering.”

Web App Security was developed with in conjunction with two recent acquisitions. Detection functionality is supported by the acquisition of an established Web application scanning service, IndusGuard from Indusface. The SSL component of the solution stems from the acquisition of startup AffirmTrust, which provides access to unlimited SSL certificates, including the highly secure Extended Validation (EV) certificate.
