Sectigo Acquires IoT Security Firm Icon Labs

Certificate Authority (CA) Sectigo, formerly Comodo CA, has acquired Icon Labs, a provider of cross-platform security solutions for embedded OEMs and Internet of Things (IoT) device manufacturers.

Certificate Authority (CA) Sectigo, formerly Comodo CA, has acquired Icon Labs, a provider of cross-platform security solutions for embedded OEMs and Internet of Things (IoT) device manufacturers.

With this acquisition, Sectigo says its expanded IoT Security Platform will provide device manufacturers, systems integrators, and enterprises using IoT with purpose-built IoT certificate issuance from a third-party CA.

The solution aims to harden device security with embedded tools designed to protect the integrity of data in transit and at rest. Moreover, the platform seeks to ensure the integrity of all executed code by leveraging multi-phase secure boot.

Sectigo offers certificate issuance for connected IoT devices and provides customers with specialized management capability for trust interoperability, courtesy of Sectigo IoT Manager, part of the company’s expanded IoT Security Platform.

The addition of Iowa-based Icon Labs allows the CA to provide visibility and control over each IoT device lifecycle. Icon Labs will maintain its own brand as a subsidiary of Sectigo.

Icon Labs’ security modules, Sectigo says, can be leveraged either as point products to meet specific security requirements or as an integrated foundation for securing the device itself.

“Icon Labs has been growing and addressing this challenge by securing the device market for more than two decades. For the first time, embedded security technology is combined with device authentication and identity management to provide customers with a complete IoT security platform that solves many of the challenges presented by the rising number of threats,” said Bill Holtz, CEO, Sectigo.

This is the second acquisition Sectigo announces within a year, after it acquired website maintenance, backup, and disaster recovery provider CodeGuard, Inc., in August 2018.
