Scope Security has announced the sudden passing of its founder and CEO Mike Murray, a longtime practitioner and executive who was deeply embedded in the cybersecurity industry.
The healthcare security startup said Murray passed away on April 6. He was 46.
Murray’s passing sent shock waves through the security industry. An industry pioneer who was an active presence at security conferences big and small, Murray built global security teams at multiple organizations and had just recently secured $20 million in funding to build security products for the healthcare sector.
Prior to founding Scope Security, Murray was Chief Security Officer at Lookout, where he presided over the protection of nearly 200 mobile mobile users and their data.
Murray also led product development security at GE Healthcare, a role that included building a team to secure all of GE Healthcare’s portfolio of pre-market medical devices and services.
A migrant from Canada, Murray also co-founded The Hacker Academy and MAD Security, and held leadership positions at companies including Lookout, nCircle Network Security, Liberty Mutual Insurance and Neohapsis.
