Patrick Ware Named Executive Director of US Cyber Command

The NSA’s Patrick Ware has taken up the role of Cybercrom executive director after the departure of Morgan Adamski.

US CYBERCOM 2.0

Patrick Ware has been named the new executive director of the United States Cyber Command.

Ware has been a senior executive at the National Security Agency (NSA), where he has been involved in offensive and defensive missions for 34 years.

“The EXDIR [executive director] leads initiatives to mature CYBERCOM and subordinate Command functions in the areas of strategic communication, talent management, foreign and domestic partnerships, innovation, and capability development,” the Cyber Command wrote on its website.

Ware, now the Cyber Command’s highest-ranking civilian, replaces Morgan Adamski, who announced her departure last week, after 17 years of service at the NSA and over one year of service as Cybercom’s executive director.

Cybercom still does not have a permanent commander after the Trump administration fired Gen. Timothy Haugh — who had served as the head of the NSA and Cyber Command since February 2024 — in what appeared to be a politically motivated decision.

The Defense Department had wanted to nominate Army Lt. Gen. Richard Angle for the role of director of the NSA and head of Cyber Command, but the White House rejected the proposal for unknown reasons.
