Palo Alto Networks Acquires Stealth Mode Startup Morta Security

Palo Alto Networks announced on Monday that it has acquired Morta Security, a Silicon Valley-based cybersecurity company operating in stealth mode since 2012.

Palo Alto Networks announced on Monday that it has acquired Morta Security, a Silicon Valley-based cybersecurity company operating in stealth mode since 2012.

While the nearly 2-year-old security firm has not publicly disclosed exactly what it does, the company explains that it “has the vision of developing unique technology solutions to help large enterprises defend their networks from the most advanced cyber attackers.”

Terms of the acquisition, which was the first for Palo Alto Networks, were not disclosed.

“Morta Security brings to Palo Alto Networks a team that is experienced at protecting critical national infrastructure and technologies that will help enrich Palo Alto Networks WildFire threat protection offerings, including new toolsets that will accelerate the detection of sophisticated cyber threats and enable advanced protection capabilities for Palo Alto Networks enterprise security platform customers,” the company told SecurityWeek via email.

“The Morta team brings additional valuable threat intelligence experience and capabilities to Palo Alto Networks,” said Mark McLaughlin, President and CEO of Palo Alto Networks. “The company’s technology developments align well with our highly integrated, automated and scalable platform approach and their contributions will translate into additive threat detection and prevention benefits for our customers.”
