Norse Enhances Threat Intelligence Solution, Raises $10 Million

Armed with a fresh funding to the tune of $10 million from a recently announced Series A round of funding, Norse, a provider of threat intelligence solutions, has launched Norse IPViking 2.0, the next generation of the company’s cloud-based IT security solution, which provides “context-rich, dark-threat intelligence” to customers.

Topping the list of new features in the latest version of IPViking is “Pre-Attack Malware Intelligence”, threat intelligence capabilities designed to help customers detect and defend against malware while it is in the development, Zero Day or identified (signature) phase.

Norse LogoThe company has also added the ability to identify mobile and desktop devices, appliances, and servers attempting to connect to networks via malicious IP addresses. With these new capabilities, IPViking can now identify devices such as desktops, iPads or other mobile devices as well as servers and appliances on IPs conducting high-risk activity.

To provide customers with more threat-intelligence context and enable them to make better decisions, IPViking also classifies the high-risk devices it identifies into categories such as government, consumer, education and corporate, the company said.

“The Internet is the most widely used business communications and transaction platform and at the same time, the most dangerous. There is no real way to remain protected against attacks and exploits without visibility into what the bad actors are doing and planning,” said Sam Glines, CEO, Norse.

San Mateo, California-based Norse has developed a global network of data centers, threat sensors and honeypots to deliver context-rich, live threat intelligence to help customers strengthen defenses and reduce the risk of data breaches.

The $10 million Series A funding round, announced earlier this month, came from venture capital firm Oak Investment Partners. According to the cybersecurity startup, the funding will be used to expand and strengthen engineering, product development, and sales and marketing.
