Gigamon Unveils Security Delivery Platform

Network traffic visibility platform provider Gigamon (NYSE: GIMO) has launched a new platform designed to give enterprises extensive visibility into network traffic, users, applications and suspicious activity.

Network traffic visibility platform provider Gigamon (NYSE: GIMO) has launched a new platform designed to give enterprises extensive visibility into network traffic, users, applications and suspicious activity.

Dubbed GigaSECURE, the platform was designed to provide visibility without impacting network availability, and is comprised of hardware and software components that provide security administrators with visibility and capability for improving the effectiveness of other third party security solutions, the company said.

According to Gigamon, the platform enhances the deployment architecture of security systems and third party security applications through new capabilities that include:

GigaSECURE from GigaMon • Providing network wide reach, including cloud and virtual environments

• Offering scalable metadata extraction for improved forensics

• Isolation of applications for targeted inspection;

• Delivering visibility to encrypted traffic for threat detection

• Supporting in-line and out-of-band security device deployments

The GigaSECURE platform supports products from several security partners, such as IPS, SIEM, WAF, and Advanced Threat Prevention solution providers. Support for FireEye’s threat prevention products was announced this week.

“To be effective, a security appliance needs to be able to access the right network traffic stream,” said Ed Barry, VP Cyber Security Coalition at FireEye. “The GigaSECURE Security Delivery Platform addresses that challenge by providing the relevant, necessary traffic to the appropriate security device, without impacting the production network.”

Architected to support both inline and out-of-band deployments simultaneously, the platform connects into the network, both physical and virtual, and can be configured to deliver traffic to any applications that require it.

“The increasing network complexity and the ad hoc approach to security appliance deployments have resulted in blind spots, extraordinary costs, security device contention for access to traffic and too many false positives,” said Jon Oltsik, senior principal analyst at ESG. “A Security Delivery Platform helps eliminate many of the security architectural deficiencies that have led to so many high-profile breaches.”

Gigamon, which on Thursday announced Q2 2015 revenue of $51.4 million, up 48% year-over-year, cited continued traction in its security business as part of its record performance.
