Conduent has confirmed suffering disruptions due to a cyberattack after government agencies in multiple US states reported service outages.
The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families revealed that organizations in four states had been impacted by a “global network issue” at Conduent, noting that the vendor had been working on “rebuilding” its server.
The Department of Children and Families in Wisconsin said on January 18 that the incident impacted payments. One week earlier, Oklahoma Human Services reported that a Conduent customer service line had been experiencing a technical outage.
Conduent confirmed in a statement sent to SecurityWeek that it “experienced an operational disruption due to a cyber security incident”.
“This incident was contained and all systems have been restored. Maintaining system integrity and functionality is as important to us as it is to our clients,” the company said.
While the little information that is available suggests that Conduent may have been targeted in a ransomware attack, no known ransomware group has taken credit for the attack by the time of writing.
Conduent was targeted by the Maze ransomware group back in 2020.
Formed in 2017 following its separation from Xerox, Conduent provides business process as a service (BPaaS), customer experience management, healthcare, government, and transportation solutions.
According to its website, Conduent’s team counts over 56,000 people, and the company serves several of the top automakers, health plans, banks, and pharma companies, as well as over 600 government entities across 46 US states.
