Check Point said on Wednesday that its line of secure gateways is now available to organizations using Amazon’s Web Services. The move allows organizations to extend their network security to the cloud, by leveraging virtual appliances such as Check Point’s IPS, App Control, URL Filtering, and Firewall.
As the adoption of cloud computing brings enterprises many benefits, organizations often struggle between the upside these distributed computing models bring and the exposure of sensitive data on systems no longer under their physical control.
“Infrastructure in the cloud is a reality. As many businesses plan to manage their IT infrastructure in the cloud, it’s important to protect both cloud and on-premise infrastructure to ensure that all corporate assets remain secure,” said Oded Gonda, vice president of network security products at Check Point Software Technologies. To mitigate threats and prevent sensitive information from being exposed in the cloud, Check Point customers can now benefit from the same security offerings available for on-premise networks with over 30 software blade protections.
Check Point’s virtual line-up of security includes Firewall, IPS, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Application Control, URL Filtering, Mobile Access, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
Through Amazon Web Services, customers can click on the Check Point virtual appliance to begin enabling these software blades in the cloud. In terms of managing a virtual appliance in Amazon Cloud, customers can simplify compliance and audits with unified logs and reporting, while enforcing consistent security across the organization.
Check Point told SecurityWeek that the base price is $2,000 USD, which includes the Firewall blade and virtual gateway. Customers can add on additional software blade protections that begin at $1,500. Some of these gateways are based off a subscription model, such as Intrusion Prevention (IPS), for example, which will incur an additional cost.
