CardinalOps, which describes itself as a threat coverage optimization company, on Thursday announced raising $17.5 million in a Series A funding round that brings the total raised by the firm to $24 million.

The investment, led by Viola Ventures, will be used by the Israel-based company to improve its product and for go-to-market activities.

CardinalOps has developed a platform designed to help security operations center (SOC) teams close threat coverage gaps by plugging into their SIEM API. The platform automatically identifies coverage gaps, as well as missing or broken rules and log sources, and it continuously recommends rule remediations and misconfiguration fixes.

The company also announced on Thursday that industry veteran Phil Neray has been named chief marketing officer and VP of Cyber Defense Strategy. Neray previously worked for Microsoft and industrial cybersecurity firm CyberX — Microsoft acquired CyberX in 2020.

CardinalOps was founded in 2020 by serial entrepreneurs whose previous companies were acquired by Microsoft, HP, IBM and Palo Alto Networks. The company launched in early 2021 and it now claims to serve some of the world’s largest organizations.
