Dutch-Belgian grocery giant Ahold Delhaize has restored some of the services impacted by last week’s cyberattack and expects more to come back online within days.
On October 12, the company took its systems offline in response to “a security issue” within its network, which impacted its online services, including orders and deliveries across Europe and the US.
Without providing details on the incident, Ahold Delhaize confirmed last week that its local brands were affected, but said stores have remained open.
On Monday, the company confirmed that a cyberattack disrupted its services, which are now coming back online. Many of its European websites and applications are now restored, and Albert Heijn, its Dutch brand, is expected to resume home deliveries by Friday.
E-commerce services at Ahold Delhaize’s US brands are expected to be restored within days, but the company has not provided a specific timeframe.
“All stores across all brands have remained open throughout the incident, while we have continued the phased restoration of our systems and services to support the distribution of groceries to our brands’ customers as quickly as possible,” the grocery giant said.
While it refrained from sharing information on the type of cyberattack it fell victim to, Ahold Delhaize said it has no evidence that customer, associate, or partner data was stolen in the incident.
The company says it notified the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and relevant authorities shortly after discovering the attack and filed a formal police report this week.
“Taking systems offline to help protect them was a precautionary measure that affected most of our brands across Europe and the United States. Although this incident was caused by the malicious actions of others, we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused – especially to our customers,” Ahold Delhaize president and CEO Frans Muller said.
