Network and security monitoring firm VSS Monitoring, Inc., today announced it has raised $20 million from Battery Ventures in its first institutional round of financing.
VSS Monitoring provides traffic capturing and security monitoring utilizing a distributed capture system, architected as a layer between network infrastructure and the analytical equipment. The system is able to collect a copy of traffic either via inline taps or from switch SPAN ports at capture points anywhere in the world. With the captured data IT professionals can analyze large networks and traffic, helping to prevent problems from reaching end users.
As virtualization continues to be rolled out in data centers, as next generation networks become flattened, and as IP-based services such as mobile video proliferate, monitoring and securing the network becomes an increasingly complicated task.
Founded in 2003, the company currently has over 1,000 customers consisting of enterprises, government agencies and service providers around the world.
The financing will be used to accelerate R&D, expand customer and partner support, and expanding sales and marketing.
Neeraj Agrawal, Battery Ventures General Partner and Alex Benik, Battery Ventures Principal, will assume seats on VSS Monitoring’s board.
