Tenable CEO Amit Yoran Dead at 54

Tenable CEO and cybersecurity industry veteran Amit Yoran has passed away at the age of 54 after a battle with cancer.

Cybersecurity giant Tenable announced over the weekend the unexpected passing of its chairman and chief executive officer, Amit Yoran, at the age of 54, after a battle with cancer.

Amit Yoran

Yoran, a cybersecurity industry veteran and a respected member of the community, had served as CEO of Tenable since 2016.

Prior to Tenable, Yoran held leadership roles at RSA Security (including as president), NetWitness (founder and CEO until it was acquired by RSA Security), and Symantec.

Yoran was also on the board of directors of companies such as BlackLine, Center for Internet Security, and Invincea.

Two decades ago he served as National Cybersecurity Director at the US Department of Homeland Security.

After Yoran took a medical leave of absence on December 5, Tenable’s board appointed CFO Steve Vintz and COO Mark Thurmond as co-CEOs. They will continue to lead the company until a new CEO is found — both internal and external candidates are being considered, Tenable said.

Tech industry investor and advisor Art Coviello will serve as chairman of Tenable’s board. He is also lead independent director at the cybersecurity firm.

Tenable noted following Yoran’s passing that it should be able to meet or exceed financial expectations for the fourth quarter and the full year.
