Arbor Networks and other service providers have reported that Sudan essentially dropped off the Internet on Wednesday. According to data from Arbor Networks, Internet traffic from Sudan dropped off starting around 9am EST on Wednesday.
“Internet in #Sudan has been cut off. An act of cowardice from the government if you ask me provided the small size of the so called revolt,” one user Tweeted.
The Internet shutdown comes as riots raged through the streets of Sudan Capital Khartoum earlier today, in response to the government’s lifting of fuel subsidies.
Akamai Technologies also noted of the drop in Internet traffic via Twitter, noting: “#Sudan #Internet disruption causes @akamai traffic to the country to drop significantly just after 10:00 AM UTC. twitter.com/akamai_soti/st…“
