Data Breaches

Nearly 250,000 Impacted by Data Breach at Medical Associates of Brevard

The BianLian ransomware group took credit for the cyberattack on the healthcare organization in January 2025.

Florida-based Medical Associates of Brevard has informed authorities that a data breach suffered earlier this year impacts nearly 250,000 individuals.

Medical Associates of Brevard provides healthcare services in the Melbourne, Florida area.

The organization discovered in mid-January 2025 that its systems had been breached and an investigation later determined that the attackers may have stolen personal and protected health information.

The healthcare organization on September 5 submitted a copy of its notification to impacted individuals to the Maine Attorney General’s Office. At the time it did not disclose the total number of affected customers.

However, the healthcare data breach tracker maintained by the US Department of Health and Human Services revealed on Wednesday that the incident has impacted 246,711 people.

The BianLian ransomware group took credit for the attack on Medical Associates of Brevard in January, claiming to have stolen personal information, protected health information, as well as emails, databases, and documents pertaining to accounting, HR, and partners.

BianLian has not been active since late March and it’s unclear what happened to the stolen information.

While the number of affected individuals might seem significant, it’s common for healthcare data breaches to impact a large number of people.
