Masimo Manufacturing Facilities Hit by Cyberattack

Health technology and consumer electronics firm Masimo detected unauthorized activity on its network in late April.

California-based health technology and consumer electronics company Masimo Corporation has been targeted in a cyberattack that impacted its manufacturing facilities.

The company said in a filing with the SEC that it detected unauthorized access on its network on April 27.

In response to the incident, Masimo isolated affected systems and implemented other containment measures. Outside cybersecurity experts have been called in to assist with the investigation and incident response, and law enforcement has been notified.

“As a result of the incident, certain of the Company’s manufacturing facilities have been operating at less than normal levels, and the Company’s ability to process, fulfill, and ship customer orders timely has been temporarily impacted,” Masimo said in the SEC filing.

It added, “The Company has been working diligently to bring the affected portions of its network back online, restore normal business operations and mitigate the impact of the incident.”

The investigation is ongoing and the firm has not mentioned whether sensitive data may have been stolen during the intrusion.

Based on Masimo’s brief description of the incident, the company may have been targeted in a ransomware attack. However, no known ransomware group appears to have taken credit for the attack at the time of writing.

Masimo said the incident impacted its on-premises network and there is no indication that cloud-based systems are affected.
