Hackers Stole Data From Public Safety Comms Firm BK Technologies

BK Technologies has informed the SEC that it discovered an IT intrusion on September 20.

Florida-based public safety communications solutions provider BK Technologies Corp (BKTI:NYSE American) revealed on Monday that its IT systems were hacked recently.

The company said in a regulatory filing that it detected an intrusion on September 20. An investigation was launched and action was taken to remove the attacker from its systems.

The incident resulted in some “minor disruptions” to non-critical systems and operations were not affected, the SEC was told.

However, the company’s investigation revealed that the hackers accessed and stole non-public information from compromised systems. Files containing the information of current and former employees may have been exfiltrated.

The company currently does not believe that the cyberattack will materially impact its financial condition or results of operations. In addition, it noted that a significant portion of the costs for containing, investigating and remediating the incident are covered by insurance.

BK Technologies specializes in wireless communications equipment, primarily for public safety and government agencies. Its products include two-way land mobile radios, repeaters, and base stations.

It’s unclear if BK Technologies has been targeted in a ransomware attack. SecurityWeek has not seen any known group taking credit for the intrusion.
