Frederick Health Hit by Ransomware Attack

Maryland healthcare provider Frederick Health has taken some of its systems offline in response to a ransomware attack.

Maryland healthcare provider Frederick Health is scrambling to restore its systems after taking them offline in response to a ransomware attack.

The disruption, the healthcare network said on Monday, caused certain delays in its services, as it reverted to downtime procedures.

“Our facilities remain open, and we continue to provide care for our patients using established back-up processes and other downtime procedures,” the organization said in an incident notice, but announced the next day that the Frederick Health Village Laboratory had been closed.

“All other Frederick Health Laboratory locations and Frederick Health Medical Group offices are open. Please be aware that you may experience delays as we continue to operate under current circumstances,” Frederick Health said, informing patients that appointments would be rescheduled where necessary.

The healthcare provider did not share details on how the ransomware attack occurred, but said it retained third-party cybersecurity experts to help with restoring its systems as soon as possible.

It is unclear whether any information was stolen during the attack or which threat actor might be responsible for the incident, as no known ransomware group has claimed responsibility for it.

Headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, the healthcare provider operates over two dozen hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare facilities in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and employs over 4,000 individuals.
