Forescout Acquires Healthcare Cybersecurity Firm CyberMDX

Device security firm Forescout Technologies announced on Tuesday that is has acquired healthcare cybersecurity firm CyberMDX, which provides solutions to protect medical devices and clinical networks.

Device security firm Forescout Technologies announced on Tuesday that is has acquired healthcare cybersecurity firm CyberMDX, which provides solutions to protect medical devices and clinical networks. 

CyberMDX offers a solution that helps healthcare organizations continuously discover connected medical devices, visualize network flow, manage assets, and obtain risk assessment and security reports. It also delivers defense capabilities, as well as operational analytics and insights.

Forescout says the acquisition will strengthen its out-of-the-box support for connected device types across IT, IoT, operational technology (OT) and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices. 

Th terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

CyberMDX had raised $30 million in funding, including a $20 million growth round in April 2020.

Researchers from CyberMDX have been credited for identifying vulnerabilities in infusion therapy products made by BD, and anesthesia devices and patient monitoring products made by GE Healthcare. In December 2020, CyberMDX reported that more than 100 medical devices made by GE Healthcare were affected by a potentially serious vulnerability that could allow an attacker to access or modify protected health information.

In late 2018, Forescout acquired operational technology (OT) network security firm SecurityMatters for approximately $113 million in cash.

Previously a publicly traded company, Forescout was taken private by Advent International in a roughly $1.4 billion deal in 2020, after initially agreeing to be acquired for $1.9 billion by the private equity giant.
