Email Security Startup AegisAI Launches With $13 Million in Funding

AegisAI uses autonomous AI agents to prevent phishing, malware, and BEC attacks from reaching inboxes.

AI-native email security startup AegisAI on Wednesday launched with $13 million in seed funding from Accel and Foundation Capital.

Founded by Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, former Google Safe Browsing and reCAPTCHA leaders, AegisAI seeks to prevent email attacks such as phishing, malware, and business email compromise (BEC) through autonomous AI agents.

Modern email threats use AI to fabricate lures that appear more real than ever, and attackers are relying on trusted platforms to deliver malicious content, bypassing traditional reputation-based filters by exploiting the inherent trust in popular services.

AegisAI’s approach to email security eliminates the need for static rules, complex playbooks, and training, through the deployment of a network of real-time AI agents that autonomously inspect, analyze, and neutralize threats.

The platform integrates with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, and the agents continuously learn from real-world behavior for fast detection and remediation, while also sharing threat intelligence across organizations.

The platform analyzes all message components, including attachments, links, metadata, and QR codes, provides autonomous response and policy enforcement with minimal maintenance, and comes with built-in enterprise-grade encryption and data minimization principles.

According to AegisAI, its solution can lower false-positives by 90% compared to traditional solutions when deployed in production environments.

The startup will use the investment to accelerate product development, add new talent to its engineering team, and expand go-to-market efforts as it scales its platform.

“We don’t believe in creating more alerts — we believe in creating better security outcomes. Our mission is to protect organizations without adding operational burden and to give security teams the reliable intelligence they need to focus on what matters most,” AegisAI co-founder and CTO Ryan Luo said.
