In addition to announcing plans to acquire information security services provider SecureWorks earlier this week, Dell announced that Tom Patterson has joined the company as Executive Director for its Global Security Consulting Group. In this role, Patterson will lead Dell’s security services consulting teams, including mobile security, data loss prevention, cyber intelligence, supply chain security, application security, identity and access management, and cloud security.

Patterson comes to Dell from MagTek, where he was chief security officer, and led the introduction of an advanced countermeasure to defeat counterfeit credit and debit cards in the financial and retail sector. Previously, Patterson led security services for Deloitte in Europe, was IBM’s chief e-commerce strategist, and successfully founded a Carlyle Ventures-backed startup in the next generation Internet (IPv6) space.

Patterson has advised the DoD, FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Federal Reserve, National Counter-Intelligence Executive, and components of the intelligence community, as well as global country leaders on the latest threat and countermeasure intelligence.
