Degraded Performance Issue Sparks Concern Among CrowdStrike Customers

CrowdStrike has addressed a cloud service issue causing degraded performance and boot times for some of its customers. 

Some CrowdStrike customers complained on Thursday about degraded performance, which the cybersecurity giant blamed on a cloud service issue.

Customers took to Reddit to complain about disruptions apparently caused by CrowdStrike, sparking concern that the company may again cause serious problems.

Fortunately, unlike last month when a bad CrowdStrike update caused significant disruptions to major organizations around the world, this time the issue only caused some services not to work properly and slowed down systems. In addition, only a limited number of customers appear to have been affected. 

“CrowdStrike is currently investigating an issue with a cloud service that sensor communicates with in a synchronous manner within the EU-1 Falcon Cloud,” CrowdStrike told customers when the issue emerged. “Sensor may generate more traffic to the cloud or can cause system performance issue as it will need more time to make decisions related to detections.”

CrowdStrike rushed to address the problem and pointed out that it was not related to the July incident. 

The company later confirmed that “a performance issue with a cloud service” caused “degraded performance and boot times for some customers”. A few hours later, it informed customers that “services are recovering and performance is returning to normal”.

Earlier this month, CrowdStrike released a root cause analysis for the major incident that occurred in July, detailing why an update caused millions of Windows systems around the world to crash. 

It’s believed that the incident resulted in billions of dollars in losses for impacted organizations. CrowdStrike is facing lawsuits from both investors and customers.
