Silicon Valley early-stage startup Dasera has banked $12 million in venture capital funding to drive innovation in the data security and governance space.

The Series A funding round was led by Storm Ventures and brings the total raised by Dasera to $20 million.

Dasera said it also took on equity investments from Correlation Ventures, Mighty Capital, Tau Ventures, Intuitive Cloud, and existing investors Sierra Ventures and Saama Capital.

Dasera competes in the crowded data security posture management category where startups large and small are jostling to automate the continuous discovery — and mitigation — of threats in multi-cloud deployments.

The startup is pitching automated data security and governance controls to streamline risk management, ensuring cloud security and privacy for organizations throughout the data lifecycle.

The company said the new capital will be used to fuel product development and expand marketing activities.
