Darktrace Acquires Mira Security

AI-powered cybersecurity company Darktrace has acquired network traffic visibility provider Mira Security.

British cybersecurity solutions provider Darktrace has announced the acquisition of network traffic visibility firm Mira Security.

Founded in 2013, Darktrace leverages proprietary AI models to deliver a proactive approach to threat protection across an organization’s entire digital environment.

The company’s ActiveAI Security Platform also offers visibility into the organization’s security posture, and can detect and autonomously respond to threats, in real time.

Founded in 2020 and based in Cranberry, Pennsylvania, Mira Security provides visibility into network traffic, helping organizations detect and mitigate threats, and ensure they meet privacy and compliance requirements.

The new acquisition, Darktrace says, will strengthen its position in the network security space through improved insight from encrypted network traffic and better decryption for organizations in regulated industries such as critical infrastructure, financial services, and government.

Darktrace plans to integrate Mira Security’s in-line decryption capabilities with its existing encrypted traffic analysis capabilities, for increased visibility across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

Following the acquisition, Mira Security’s engineering team, based in the US and in Centurion, South Africa, will be added to Darktrace’s R&D division.

The team’s expertise, Darktrace says, will enable the development of next generation networking hardware and will improve Darktrace’s work in low-level networking and protocol design.

“Mira Security has already proven to be a valuable source of insight for our AI, helping us provide unparalleled detection and response capabilities at scale. By bringing the Mira Security team’s deep expertise into Darktrace, we will be able to accelerate innovation, deepen the capabilities of our market-leading Network product and unlock even greater security performance for our customers,” Darktrace Chief Strategy Officer Phil Pearson said.

Mira Security is the second security startup Darktrace has acquired this year, after expanding its cloud security capabilities with the acquisition of Cado Security.

In April last year, Darktrace agreed to be acquired by private equity giant Thoma Bravo in a $5.32 billion deal.

SecurityWeek has contacted Darktrace for information on the financial terms of the Mira Security transaction and will update this article if the company responds.
