Dane Stuckey Joins OpenAI as CISO

Former Palantir CISO joins ChatGPT maker OpenAI to lead cybersecurity efforts.

Dane Stuckey, the former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of big data analytics and AI firm Palantir, has joined OpenAI as CISO.

Stuckey shared the news on social media platform X late Tuesday. “Security is germane to OpenAI’s mission,” Stuckey said. “It is critical we meet the highest standards for compliance, trust, and security to protect hundreds of millions of users of our products, enable democratic institutions to maximally benefit from these technologies, and drive the development of safe AGI for the world.”

Stuckey served in senior security roles at Palantir Technologies for more than ten years, including six-plus years as the company’s CISO.

In his new role, Stuckey said he would be working alongside Matt Knight, Head of Security at OpenAI.

“I am so excited for this next chapter, and can’t wait to help secure a future where AI benefits us all,” Stuckey added.

In late May, the artificial intelligence giant announced the creation of safety and security committee that would advise the full board on “critical safety and security decisions” for its projects and operations.

In June, former National Security Agency (NSA) Director Paul M. Nakasone joined the Board of Directors at OpenAI, where the company said he would “contribute to OpenAI’s efforts to better understand how AI can be used to strengthen cybersecurity by quickly detecting and responding to cybersecurity threats.”

Earlier this month, OpenAI said it had disrupted more than 20 cyber and covert influence operations since the beginning of the year, including the activities of Iranian and Chinese state-sponsored hackers.
