Cisco to Acquire Threat Detection Company SnapAttack

Cisco has announced its intention to acquire threat detection company SnapAttack to boost Splunk security product capabilities.

Cisco this week announced its intention to acquire threat detection and defense company SnapAttack to boost Splunk security product capabilities.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

SnapAttack has created a platform that provides detection engineering, threat hunting, threat intelligence, and SIEM migration capabilities.

“With Cisco’s acquisition of SnapAttack, security teams using Splunk security products will see even more innovation with accelerated delivery of capabilities that offer even more control, visibility and advanced management of all their security content, including the content they develop themselves,” said Mike Horn, SVP and GM for Splunk’s Security business.

“Using a unique, threat intelligence-driven approach, SnapAttack monitors changes in the threat landscape and helps organizations understand if their current detection content protects them against the latest threats. If not, it recommends detection content that’s readily deployable for security teams to apply,” Horn added.

With SnapAttack, Splunk’s security products will get enhanced detection engineering, enhanced insights, and SIEM modernization.

SnapAttack spun out of Booz Allen Hamilton in 2021 with $8 million in funding. That appears to have been the only funding raised by the company.

This is Cisco’s second security-related acquisition this year, after announcing a deal to buy Robust Intelligence in August. In 2023, the networking giant announced several security-related acquisitions, including Valtix, Lightspin, Armorblox, OOrt, CodeBGP, and Splunk
