Webroot Acquires Web Site Classification and Reputation Services Provider, BrightCloud

Internet security vendor, Webroot, today announced it has acquired BrightCloud, a Web content classification and security services provider.

Internet security vendor, Webroot, today announced it has acquired BrightCloud, a Web content classification and security services provider.

BrightCloud provides Web reputation and content classification capabilities and maintains information on more than 200 million URLs and IP addresses used to help maximize productivity by classifying content and mitigate Web-based security risks by detecting malicious sites.

BrightCloud’s technology is used by partners to create an added layer of security and policy management for their customers. Webroot will integrate the technology with its own proprietary malware detection and security-as-a-service.

Based in San Diego, California, the BrightCloud team will join Webroot’s Cloud Engineering team with an expanded focus on hosted security services.
