Vormetric, a provider of encryption and key management solutions, today introduced the latest version of its encryption solution which the company says can significantly reduce the cost and application impact associated with encrypting data across the enterprise.
While encryption has always had obvious advantages, using encryption to secure large volumes and sets of enterprise is often hindered by performance overhead, scalability constraints and costs.
With increasingly demanding compliance mandates, privacy laws and an ever-increasing level of cyber attacks facing organizations, encryption of sensitive data is becoming more common—and required.
According to Vormetric, its solution can secure any database or application environment with extremely low overhead for typical transaction workloads with hardware-assisted instructions on x86 servers sporting Intel AES-NI technology.
“This substantial performance boost enables enterprises to significantly lower the cost of encryption and free up CPU cycles for applications and data processing,” the company said it a statement.
In terms of performance, the company said that a single Vormetric Data Security Manager (DSM) appliance cluster can provide centralized policy and key management for the biggest enterprise servers with large numbers of data sets, and tens of thousands of multi-core server farms.
Along with performance boosts, Vormetric Encryption V5 brings improved manageability including the ability to simplify the task of creating system, domain and security administrator accounts through selection of credentialed users from directory servers including Active Directory and other directory services that make use of the LDAP/LDAPS protocols.
Adding an additional layer of security to the equation, the Vormetric Encryption Data Security Manager supports RSA SecureID two-factor authentication for administrative access, helping to defend against outside attackers or malicious insiders.
“Vormetric’s unified approach to policy management allows enterprises to do more with less: protect more data, reduce IT administration costs, tighten security and centralize auditing for regulatory compliance reporting,” said Ashvin Kamaraju, vice president of product development at Vormetric.
Vormetric Encryption V5 is set to be available in May 2012 for Linux, Solaris, AIX, and Windows operating systems.
