Varonis Systems today announced the launch of the Varonis Data Transport Engine, new technology the company says will help organizations securely move and archive data.

The product is another piece of the company’s data governance suite. According to Varonis, the Data Transport Engine (DTE) uses the metadata generated by the Varonis Metadata Framework and features an intelligent rules engine that enables IT personnel to establish criteria for determining what data should be moved, where it should go and what permissions should be in effect. 

Varonis DTE also includes a number of other key features, such as the ability to schedule and configure one-time or ongoing migration rules, incremental migrations for large scale data sets and the ability to migrate data between disparate platforms.

“Whether you move data within an organization or in the aftermath of an acquisition – if proprietary and business critical information is lost or accessible to the wrong people it could lead to catastrophic consequences,” said Yaki Faitelson, CEO and co-founder of Varonis, in a statement. “To put this into perspective, imagine that you have migrated data from dozens of decentralized servers into a few, centralized ones, and several folders containing sensitive data have misconfigured permissions (a common issue)— sensitive data would be accessible to potentially hundreds or thousands of inappropriate people. Varonis DTE is a complete, secure archiving and migration solution to keep data safe and available during and after a migration.”
