Trend Micro today announced that it has hired Tom Kellermann for a newly created position in the company, U.S. Vice President of Cybersecurity.

Kellermann, a well-respected industry veteran, will be based in Washington, D.C., and will serve as an advisor and strategist to federal, state and local government clients—fitting since he is a member of the Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th President.

In addition to Kellermann’s current Federal government involvement, he formerly served as a Senior Data Risk Management Specialist for the World Bank Treasury Security Team where he was responsible for Cyber-intelligence and policy management within the World Bank Treasury.

The company said that Kellerman would also serve as a security evangelist and government affairs expert to forge strategic partnerships both domestically and internationally, and increase Trend Micro’s profile in emerging technologies and policy issues.

“Tom is going to be a great asset to Trend Micro,” said Thomas Miller, president, Trend Micro U.S. commercial operations. “Tom brings to us a deep understanding of security issues targeting our federal and government organizations and is a trusted expert in this area. His reputation and long-standing relationships will help us develop and execute a strategy aimed at building next-generation security solutions designed for governments.”

Prior to Trend Micro, Kellermann served as Chief Technology Expert for mobile security firm Air Patrol. Before that, he worked for Boston-based Core Security Technologies. He is a professor at American University’s School of International Service and a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
