U.S. President Barack Obama has appointed Symantec President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Bennett to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC), the company announced on Wednesday.
The White House announced Bennett’s appointment to the Committee on June 4. Bennett’s appointment is the standard three-year term for all members of the NSTAC, Symantec said.
“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee,” said Bennett in a prepared satement. “The Committee has a long and distinguished record of providing recommendations to the President on telecommunications and information technology critical infrastructure security and protection issues, and I look forward to contributing to that work in the future.”
Bennett took the top position at Symantec in July 2012, after former president and CEO Enrique Salem was pushed out at the decision of the Board of Directors.
Angel Ruiz, Head of Region North America at Ericsson was also appointed to the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.
“For more than 30 years, the NSTAC has brought together up to 30 industry chief executives from major telecommunications and network service providers, and information technology, finance, and aerospace companies,” a statement explained. “The NSTAC’s goal is to develop recommendations to the President to assure vital telecommunications links through any event or crisis, and to help the U.S. Government maintain a reliable, secure, and resilient national communications posture.”
