SquareX emerges from stealth mode with $6 million in seed funding for the development of its security-focused browser extension.

Cybersecurity startup SquareX today emerged from stealth mode with $6 million raised in a seed funding round led by Sequoia Capital Southeast Asia.

The Singapore company provides a cloud-based solution that integrates with the browser as an extension, and which can keep users safe from malware and allows them to remain private.

The solution, SquareX says, allows users to remain productive and safely check emails, create documents, manage files, stream content, or access banking and ecommerce accounts.

Leveraging cloud services, SquareX allows users to open links and files in ‘disposable browsers’, temporary containers that are headless browsers running in data centers to neutralize threats before reaching the endpoint.

SquareX initially made its solution available in early March 2023 and plans to release a beta version for a limited number of users in May.

The company will invest the new funds in research and development and go-to-market operations.

“By creating a seamless, browser-integrated cybersecurity solution, we are empowering consumers to be fearless online and take control of their own security on the internet. We believe that a safer internet experience is not only possible but essential,” SquareX founder Vivek Ramachandran said.
