SonicWALL Announces ‘SuperMassive’ Next-Generation Firewall Series

SonicWALL, a provider of network security and data protection solutions, today announced its SuperMassive™ E10000 Series of Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) featuring a multi-core architecture that utilizes up to 96 cores of processing power and delivering more than 40 Gbps of firewall throughput and over 30 Gbps of application control and Intrusion Prevention Service (IPS).

SonicWALL, a provider of network security and data protection solutions, today announced its SuperMassive™ E10000 Series of Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) featuring a multi-core architecture that utilizes up to 96 cores of processing power and delivering more than 40 Gbps of firewall throughput and over 30 Gbps of application control and Intrusion Prevention Service (IPS).

The SuperMassive E10000 Series, consisting of the E10100, the E10200, the E10400 and the flagship E10800, utilizes SonicWALL’s Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection (RFDPI™) engine to scan every byte of every packet with full content inspection of the entire stream while providing high performance and low latency. The RFDPI engine also provides full inspection of SSL-encrypted traffic as well as non-proxyable applications.

“We believe that today, less than 1% of corporate networks are secured using next-generation firewalls,” says Greg Young, research vice president at Gartner. “Security vendors are making strides to eliminate the deep inspection quality and performance penalty that has been a barrier to next-generation firewall deployments. This paves the way for much broader acceptance. We expect that by 2014, 35% of all enterprises will have installed a next-generation firewall with tightly integrated intrusion prevention and application visibility and control capabilities.”

The SuperMassive E10100 features 12 processing cores with 12 additional cores in integrated high availability mode. The device is capable of delivering full deep packet inspection with application intelligence and intrusion prevention at 3 Gbps. The SonicWALL SuperMassive E10200 utilizes 24 processing cores and delivers 7.5 Gbps of application control and IPS. The SuperMassive E10400 is powered by 48 processing cores, offering 15 Gbps of application control and IPS. The SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 is the flagship model of the SuperMassive Series and features 96 cores for maximum performance and throughput. The SuperMassive E10800 delivers more than 10 Gbps of anti-malware protection against more than 4 million unique malware variants.

For even larger bandwidth requirements, the SuperMassive Series enables clustering up to eight systems delivering an industry-leading combination of performance, security, and operational resilience. A SuperMassive Active-Active cluster deployment is suited for today’s most demanding networking environments, providing up to 120 Gbps of simultaneous next-generation firewall, application control and intrusion prevention, and up to 60 Gbps of anti-malware protection from millions of malware variants.

SonicWALL is currently taking orders for the SuperMassive E10100 but delivery starts in Q2 of this year. SuperMassive E10200, E10400 and E10800 will be delivered in Q3.
