Siemens this week announced that it is acquiring UltraSoC Technologies, a provider of embedded analytics and monitoring solutions for systems-on-chip (SoCs).
Founded in 2006 and based in Cambridge, UK, UltraSoC delivers instrumentation and analytics solutions embedding monitoring, cybersecurity and functional safety capabilities into core SoC hardware.
UltraSoC’s solution enables capabilities to accelerate silicon bring-up and optimize product performance, while also ensuring that devices are operating ‘as designed’ from a safety and cybersecurity perspective.
The company’s products are used in the automotive, high-performance computing, storage and semiconductor industries.
Siemens plans to integrate UltraSoC’s technology into its Xcelerator portfolio, as part of the Mentor Tessent software suite, which is renowned for its SoC design-for-test (DFT) solutions.
With the new addition, Siemens aims to deliver a “complete package of solutions,” that includes “semiconductor design and production, functional safety, cyber-security, and functional optimization of products in the field.”
The portfolio, Siemens says, will help customers in the semiconductor industry address issues such as manufacturing defects, bugs in both software and hardware, device early-failure and wear-out, and malicious attacks.

Siemens expects to complete the acquisition of UltraSoC in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2020. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
