EMC said today that it has acquired Montreal-based Silicium Security, a developer of endpoint monitoring technology that helps security teams detect and mitigate unknown and advanced malware.
Originally developed for a Canadian government customer, the Company’s says its flagship product, ECAT has been deployed since 2007.
Silicium Security will keep its employees and operate in Montreal as a line of business under RSA, The Security Division of EMC. According to RSA, the acquisition will enhance the capabilities of RSA’s Advanced Cyber Defense Services by:
• Employing a signature-less approach that detects even the most sophisticated malware
• Alerting security teams on recurring attacks and known malware
• Tracking endpoint behavior including application loading and network traffic to facilitate investigations and speed up remediation
• Facilitating the capture of forensic artifacts for deeper analysis
• Delivering security intelligence that is actionable and easily navigated
“Combining the Silicium Security endpoint monitoring technology with the RSA NetWitness network and log visibility and analytics solutions will enable RSA to offer customers a comprehensive incident response solution to combat Advanced Persistent Threats,” the company said in a statement.
Earlier today, RSA launched “RSA Advanced Cyber Defense Services”, new service offerings that include incident response and breach readiness assessment to help organizations prepare for, respond to, and mitigate cyber-threats.
“RSA Advanced Cyber Defense Services help customers take a proactive, practical approach to their security posture, from strategy and implementation to operation and analysis,” said Peter Tran, Senior director of the newly created RSA Advanced Cyber Defense practice.
Additionally, RSA and Booz Allen Hamilton today announced a new consulting and services partnership to jointly develop new information security service offerings. The goal is to help customers architect threat-resistant digital infrastructure and assess security preparedness and incident response, the companies said.

The terms of the Silicium Security acquisition were not disclosed.
