Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) security and compliance solutions provider Qualys, this week launched an updated version of its FreeScan service aimed at helping small and medium businesses (SMBs) perform a scan on company web sites or publicly facing IP addresses, and letting them know where they may be at risk.

The newly enchaced FreeScan service is powered by Qualys’ cloud-based platform that hosts its QualysGuard security and compliance suite, and allows customers to perform scans for network vulnerabilities, web application vulnerabilities, malware infections, and inspect the validity of SSL certificates.

Cybercriminals are increasingly using techniques such as cross-site scripting (XSS) and SQL injection attacks on web sites, often redirecting users without their knowledge in an effort to steal user data or spread malware.

The scan results also provide guidance on remediation to fix identified vulnerabilities and remove malware infections.

Qulays FreeScan allows each customer to run up to five scans on their web sites or publicly facing IP addresses for free and is available here.
