Palo Alto Networks (NYSE: PANW) announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Silicon Valley-based CirroSecure, a security startup focused on protecting Software as a Service (SaaS) applications.

CirroSecure offers technology that helps secure cloud applications by providing visibility across user, folder, and file activity while leveraging analytics into usage to determine if any policy or data security violations have occurred.

The technology is able to prevent such policy violations through the use of granular, context-aware policies that allow customers to quarantine users and data when a violation has occurred to prevent loss of sensitive data.

According to Palo Alto Networks, adding CirroSecure’s technology to its network security platform will allow it to provide additional security for SaaS applications such as Box, Dropbox, GitHub, Google Drive, and salesforce.com.

The new SaaS protection technology is expected to be available in the second half of 2015 as a new subscription-based service and part of Palo Alto’s enterprise security platform.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
