Today Oracle announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Endeca, a provider of unstructured data management, web commerce and business intelligence solutions.

Endeca’s solutions help customers make more informed decisions by helping users understand diverse and changing data. Endeca’s solutions give IT departments the ability to adapt to diverse and changing information through its hybrid search-analytical database, which helps end-users find the information they need and understand what they found.

Oracle plans to create a technology platform to process, store, manage, search and analyze structured and unstructured information enabling businesses to make stronger and more profitable decisions. Oracle believes the combination of Oracle ATG Commerce with Endeca’s InFront web commerce solutions will enhance cross-channel commerce, merchandising, and online customer experiences. Adding Endeca Latitude software to Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBI EE) is expected to provide a single unified user interface for analysis of structured and unstructured data.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close before the end of 2011.
