Oleria, a Seattle startup founded by former Salesforce CISO Jim Alkove, has banked an $8 million seed round to build technology in the identity and authentication space.

Oleria said the $8 million investment was provided by Salesforce Ventures, Tapestry VC and a roster of CEOs and CISOs of prominent tech and security companies.

Alkove, who spent five years managing information security and compliance at Salesforce, said he decided to create Oleria after dealing with the frustrations of existing identity and access management tools.

“I’ve spent my career in some of the largest companies in the world, and have been continuously frustrated by the efforts expended to give just the right people the right access at the right time, only to be disappointed time and again,” Alkove said.

Not much is known about Oleria’s product but the idea is to build technology to provide appropriate access to the right users, at the right time, for the right duration, with a focus on cleaning up the user experience.

“The platform continuously assesses and validates the people, applications and assets involved in each digital interaction and adapts to specific context and changing needs,” the company explained.

This approach is meant to keep digital assets secure through continuous access reviews and remediation, and remove static and inflexible identity and access management that slow down business operations.
