Nominum, a provider of DNS management solutions, today officially announced that it has appointed Gary Messiana as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer where he will oversee corporate strategy and operations for the company as it looks to enhance its products and expand into new markets.

Since 2008, Messiana has been an entrepreneur-in-residence at Bessemer Venture Partners, one of Nominum’s investors, focused on evaluating investment opportunities in the software and infrastructure-as-a-service sectors. Prior to Bessemer, Messiana served as CEO of Netli, a content-and-application delivery network provider serving both the carrier and enterprise markets. Netli was sold to Akamai in 2007. Previously, Gary was CEO at Diligent Software Systems, a strategic sourcing start-up that was sold to B2E Markets.

“I am excited to join Nominum during such a high-growth phase and to build upon our leadership within carrier and enterprise markets globally,” states Gary Messiana, CEO of Nominum. “With our new management team, our new approachability and the company’s industry leading products and services, we will continue our work as the leading force shaping the new Internet. I am committed to ensuring our customers recognize Nominum as the most customer-centric and commercially-friendly company they do business with.”

“As our technology evolves and we look to the future, Gary is a perfect match for Nominum,” explains Paul Mockapetris, chairman and chief scientist at Nominum. “Gary brings an extensive track record of leadership and success in software and hosted service solutions. His customer relationship skills, operational excellence and deep industry experience make him an ideal CEO to manage our current growth.”

Redwood City based Nominum was founded in 1999 to develop BIND 9 and ISC DHCP3 for the Internet Software Consortium (ISC). Dr. Paul Mockapetris, the inventor of DNS and Nominum Chairman and Chief Scientist, and Ted Lemon, author of the first widely used DHCP implementation, helped the company release CNS and DCS, the first commercial-grade DNS and DHCP products in 2002.

Nominum’s solutions DNS systems help improve the performance and reliability of IP networks of all sizes globally through in-network software solutions or a hosted services model.
