New NYU-Poly Master’s Degree Track Breeds Cyber Security Execs

Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly) is introducing a management track to its master’s degree in cyber security. The first classes begin this summer.

“We created the management track in response to calls from industry for highly qualified executives with strong technical knowledge,” said NYU-Poly Computer Science and Engineering Professor Nasir Memon.”It will prepare graduates to manage a team of cyber-security personnel as well as a command of the business acumen to secure information in line with company objectives.”

Tailored for professionals with strong technical backgrounds interested in managing computer security, the track covers fundamentals of information security management including risk management, legal issues, policy and operational best practices, as well as business principles driving security decisions. Industry experts explore how to close vulnerability gaps left by developers, system managers, company personnel, customers and unknown outside forces. Those who complete the program will be capable of assuming positions such as information technology (IT) risk manager, IT security manager and chief information security officer.

The program is available on NYU-Poly’s Brooklyn campus as well as worldwide from the school’s e-learning unit, NYU-ePoly. More than half of students in NYU-Poly’s cyber security master’s degree program are enrolled in its online courses.
