Security and compliance solutions provider, nCircle, today launched a network security scanning service targeted to small to medium-sized businesses.

Dubbed PureCloud, the solution combines features typically found in enterprise class security solutions, with a browser-based scanning service that can scan internal and external networks without requiring any investment in hardware or software.

nCircle says PureCloud won’t require any changes to firewalls and is simple to adopt for businesses without a full time IT security staff.

Scanning networks for known vulnerabilities greatly reduces the likelihood of security breaches and is required for many larger organizations, especially those in highly regulated industries. PureCloud hopes to help small to medium sized businesses enjoy similar security benefits that other, larger, business may have, at low cost and with minimal resources needed.

Through a Web interface, PureCloud attempts to discover all systems and devices on a network, and scans vulnerabilities and exposures to risk. If a vulnerability is identified, the system provides guidance on how to fix any discovered security failings.

According to the company, the solution can identify over 46,000 different conditions associated with security risks and can generate an inventory of office computers, servers, printers, mobile devices and more that are part of the network. PureCloud also allows users to compare their results and associated risk to other organizations using data from nCircle Benchmark, the company’s security performance management service.

Available now, nCircle is offering the service free until December 16, 2011, after which pricing will start at $3.50 to scan an single IP once, or $24 for unlimited scanning of an individual IP for one year, with volume discounts for larger networks. Currently the Web based interface only works on Windows based systems.
