Software and information technology provider Micro Focus is expanding its cybersecurity portfolio with the acquisition of cyber-threat protection company Interset.

Leveraging user and entity behavioral analytics (UEBA) and machine learning, Interset’s security analytics software is used in key verticals, including energy, critical infrastructure, high-tech, aerospace, defense and government.

With the acquisition, Micro Focus seeks to leverage key attributes of Interset’s technology, such as extensible analytics and a library of machine-learning and advanced-analytics models, to supplement its Big Data analytics software Vertica and add more value to its ArcSight SIEM correlation engine.

The company will also use Interset’ analytics engine paired with open-source, big-data technology, including Kafka, Spark, Phoenix, Hadoop, HBase, Elasticsearch, ZooKeeper, d3, and Kibana.

“Our ‘Data In, Intelligence Out’ methodology will deliver an even-more complete set of benefits for our combined customers – allowing them to leverage near real-time information to address both immediate- and long-term threats,” Mark Smialowicz, Interset’s Chief Executive Officer, said.
