McAfee Targets Data Centers with Scalable 80 Gbps Next Generation Network IPS

Today at the INTEROP IT conference and expo taking place this week in Las Vegas, McAfee announced enhancements to its McAfee Network Security Platform, including a scalable 80 Gbps IPS solution designed to provide threat protection across physical, virtual and cloud environments, and cater to the needs of private clouds in the data center, telcos and service providers networks.

Scaling to 80 Gbps throughput and 32 million concurrent connections, the latest release of McAfee’sNetwork Security Platform provides the following features:

Multi-tenancy for Telco and Service Providers – McAfee Network Security Platform includes granular multi-tenancy options that are purpose built for service provider environments. Customers can create up to 1000 virtual IPS policies per appliance, with granular policy control in each and unique rule-set capability, including features for mobile service providers, allowing management of network policies for separate customers or services.

Inspection of Virtual Environments – McAfee Network Security Platform includes native inspection of virtual environments through the VMware vShield API. Security administrators can enforce policy regardless of where the VM physically resides, allowing organizations to leverage native VCenter tools to integrate network security within virtual environments.

Behavior-based Threat Detection – A new Network Threat Behavior Analysis virtual appliance extends IPS with enhanced visibility, leveraging the network’s Flow data, including rich layer 7 (application layer) information, to give context to IPS threats. The correlation of network application flows to build a richer picture of threats within the network allows for time-based analysis of threat and application activity.

“We put the McAfee Network Security Platform XC Cluster through our full network IPS test rigor and it successfully passed over 72 Gbps of inspected traffic while maintaining an overall protection rating of 95%,” said Vikram Phatak, CTO of security testing firm NSS Labs.
