JPMorgan Chase Bank last week sent out notification letters to inform customers that their personal information might have been inadvertently exposed to other customers.

The New York City-based financial services provider has started informing customers that, due to a technical bug, their personal information might have been exposed to other customers. The data was viewable on chase.com or in the Chase Mobile app.

Information that other customers might have accessed includes balances and transaction data, along with names and account numbers, the bank said in the notification letter.

“You won’t be liable for any fraudulent activity on your Chase accounts that you promptly tell us about. We encourage you, as always, to review your account settings and transactions on chase.com, Chase Mobile and in monthly statements. Should you identify any inconsistencies and need assistance, please contact us at the number on your statement or on the back of your card,” the firm said.

According to Chase, its investigation into the incident found no evidence that customer data was abused.

The bank did not provide further details on the issue, nor on the number of customers who might have been affected. However, it did warn customers to be wary of any unsolicited messages or suspicious activity on their accounts.

Impacted individuals have been offered free credit monitoring services for one year.
