(ISC)2, the large not-for-profit information security professionals organization, today announced that Devon Bryan, CISSP, deputy associate chief information officer for cybersecurity for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has been selected as the new co-chair of the (ISC)2 U.S. Government Advisory Board (GAB) for Cyber Security. 
Bryan replaces Michael Castagna, CISSP, vice president for corporate information security for Sallie Mae, as co-chair. Bryan will work alongside Marc Noble, CISSP-ISSAP, CISM, (ISC)2 director of government affairs, to co-chair the group.
The seven year old GAB is a dedicated ongoing forum wherein a diverse group of information security thought leaders discuss the daily challenges that government information security professionals face and solutions on how best to evolve (ISC)2 resources, education and certification programs to help meet those challenges.
“I am looking forward to serving in this new capacity and bringing my ‘view from the trenches’ to this respected body of cybersecurity leaders and educators,” Bryan said. “This board is instrumental to ensuring that the issues and challenges facing federal government information security practitioners are raised, evaluated and effectively addressed in professional certifications.”
Two new federal information security leaders have also been named as volunteer members of the GAB.
Peter Gouldmann, CISSP, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Committee on National Security Systems liaison at the Office of Information Assurance, U.S. Department of State. Mr. Gouldmann has held information technology (IT) and IT security leadership positions within the Department of State, the private sector and the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Gouldmann is a frequent speaker at IT security forums, is involved in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Chief Information Officer’s Certification &Accreditation Transformation Initiative and is a member of the NIST Joint Taskforce Transformation Initiative Interagency Working Group.
Charles L. (Chuck) McGann, Jr., CISSP, CISM, corporate information security officer, U.S. Postal Service (USPS). During his 22-year career with the USPS, Mr. McGann has worked in a variety of roles and was responsible for creating the Postal Service’s Computer Incident Response Team.
Mr. Gouldmann and Mr. McGann will work with the GAB’s 20 other volunteer members from the U.S. public sector and industry organizations to provide insight and advice to the (ISC)2 executive management team on government policies and programs that affect the information security profession, as well as certifications for U.S. cyber security professionals. “It is an honor to have Mr. Gouldmann and Mr. McGann join the GAB in a volunteer advisor capacity, as they are highly regarded in their field and bring unique insights and ideas about the present and future state of the information security profession,” said W.
